Accessibility plugin for WooCommerce and WordPress
Published · 47.4% of French online stores
WooCommerce powers nearly one French online store in two, and a large share of stores worldwide. Since 28 June 2025 the European Accessibility Act requires e-commerce sites selling to EU consumers to be accessible. The Conformly plugin brings the audit into your WordPress dashboard: one click to scan the store, issues ranked by severity, and a fix guide for each one.

Why an accessibility plugin for WooCommerce
E-commerce is explicitly covered by Directive (EU) 2019/882, the European Accessibility Act, for services provided to consumers since 28 June 2025. Only micro-enterprises providing services are exempt: fewer than ten employees and an annual turnover or balance sheet not exceeding EUR 2 million. In the United States, WCAG 2.1 AA is also the reference used in ADA web accessibility claims.
On WooCommerce, accessibility mostly depends on the theme and extensions: "Add to cart" buttons without an accessible name, product images without alt text, checkout fields without labels, low contrast. These defects come back with every theme update. Checking them from WordPress, where you already work, keeps them from slipping through.
What the plugin does
The plugin adds an "Accessibility" page to the WooCommerce menu (or to Tools when WooCommerce is not installed) and a widget on the WordPress dashboard.
- Free scan of the store's home page, no account: accessibility score, number of issues, table of failing rules.
- A "How to fix" link per rule, to the Conformly fix guide (before / after code).
- Connected mode (Conformly API key): latest score from continuous monitoring, full-site scan on demand, results aggregated per rule across all pages.
- Score badge in the footer or through the [conformly_badge] shortcode, off by default.
- HPOS compatible (High-Performance Order Storage); settings removed cleanly on uninstall.
What the plugin does not do
It does not change your theme and does not inject an accessibility overlay. Overlay widgets do not make a site compliant and can get in the way of screen reader users. The plugin measures and tells you what to fix; the fix happens in the theme or the extensions.
An automated scan detects part of the accessibility criteria, not all of them. It does not replace a full audit, but it catches the most frequent errors and prevents regressions.
Data sent and privacy
The plugin only calls conformly.online when an administrator clicks a button. It sends the store's public URL and, in connected mode, the API key. No customer, order or visitor data is sent. The optional badge is a plain SVG image, with no script and no cookie.
Install the WooCommerce plugin
- Download the ZIP. Download conformly-woocommerce from this page. Do not unzip it.
- Upload the plugin. In WordPress: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP, then Install Now and Activate.
- Run the first scan. Open WooCommerce → Accessibility and click "Run a free scan". The result arrives in about a minute.
- Connect continuous monitoring (optional). With a Pro or Agency plan, paste the API key and site ID shown in the Conformly dashboard (your site → CI/CD integration), then turn on the badge if you want it.
Frequently asked questions
Does the plugin make my WooCommerce store WCAG compliant?
No, no plugin can: compliance depends on the theme, the content and the extensions. The plugin measures, lists the issues and points to the fix for each. You or your developer apply the fixes.
Do I need a Conformly account?
Not for the home page scan, which is free and limited to five scans per hour. Monitoring every page, full scans from WordPress and a self-updating badge require a Pro or Agency plan.
Does the plugin slow down the store?
No. It loads nothing on the storefront, except the badge if you enable it, which is a lazy-loaded image of a few kilobytes.
Does it work without WooCommerce?
Yes, on any WordPress 6.0+ site. The page then sits in the Tools menu.
How is it different from an accessibility toolbar plugin?
Toolbars change the display for the visitor without fixing the code. Conformly does the opposite: it audits the rendered code and tells you exactly what to fix.
