Shopify accessibility: scan and score badge

Published · 22.2% of French online stores

Shopify is the platform most new French stores choose, and a leader worldwide. Conformly scans your store from the outside, without access to your Shopify admin, and gives you a theme section that shows your accessibility score and a link to your accessibility statement.

Why a theme section rather than an app

A Shopify app installs in your admin and asks for permissions on your data. Measuring accessibility does not need that: Conformly analyses the store's public pages, as a visitor would. All that is left is to display the result, which a theme section of a few lines of Liquid does.

You keep control of what is added to the theme, and nothing is loaded except an image.

Common accessibility issues on Shopify

Recent Shopify themes are well built, but customisations and apps often add defects:

The legal requirement

Since 28 June 2025 the European Accessibility Act requires e-commerce services provided to EU consumers to be accessible, whatever the platform. Micro-enterprises providing services are exempt: fewer than ten employees and an annual turnover or balance sheet not exceeding EUR 2 million. In the United States, WCAG 2.1 AA is the reference cited in ADA web claims. An automated scan covers part of the criteria: it does not replace a full audit or legal advice, but it catches frequent errors.

Scan your Shopify store and install the badge

  1. Scan the store. Run the free accessibility scan with your store URL, or run npx conformly scan https://your-store.com in a terminal.
  2. Turn on monitoring (optional). Create an account, add the store and copy the site ID shown in your site's "CI/CD integration" panel.
  3. Add the section. Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → Edit code → sections → "Add a new section" named conformly-badge, paste the provided file and save.
  4. Place the badge. Customize → footer → "Add section" → Conformly accessibilité, paste the site ID. You can also link your accessibility statement.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a Shopify App Store app?

No. It is a theme section you add yourself, with no permission on your data. The scan runs from conformly.online.

Does the badge work with the Dawn theme?

Yes, with Dawn and every Online Store 2.0 theme, in the footer section group. For an older theme, use the provided snippet.

Does this make my store ADA compliant?

No tool can guarantee that. Conformly checks the WCAG 2.1 AA rules that can be tested automatically, which are the ones most often cited in ADA claims, and tells you how to fix each issue.

Does the badge prove the store is compliant?

No. It shows the score measured automatically by Conformly. Compliance is declared in an accessibility statement, which Conformly helps you write.
